She is recognized as an expert and a leader in nursing education research with a focus on digital health and nursing informatics. She is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses focused on leadership and digital health and mentors several graduate and honors students in projects related to informatics and digital health. She is the founder of the Nursing Informatics Association of Alberta and also serves as a treasurer for the Canadian Nursing Informatics Association.

The overall aim of her program of research is to enhance the preparedness of the nursing workforce and their capabilities to effectively integrate existing and emerging digital health technology in their practice roles to deliver high quality nursing care and achieve better outcomes for patients, providers, and health systems. Some of her most recent completed research projects involved the assessment of digital health integration in Canadian Schools of Nursing, the assessment of registered nurses’ informatics competency and factors impacting its development, nursing students’ readiness for practice in digitally enabled care environments, and the integration of academic electronic health records in nursing education. She is also a co-investigator on VR-related projects and projects to improve digital literacy among health consumers. She also developed and evaluated the psychometric properties of the Canadian Nurse Informatics Competency Assessment Scale (C-NICAS), the first Canadian scale developed based on CASN NI Entry to Practice competencies.
