Toronto,  July 24, 2017 –  COACH: Canada’s Health Informatics Association recently announced the launch of the Women Leaders in Digital Health Award.

Women are traditionally under-represented in Information Technology, and the fields of Digital Health and Health Informatics are no different. A recent study revealed that gender diversity leads to stronger performance of digital health companies, yet leadership positions are disproportionately filled by men.

“Although the number of women occupying decision-making roles in healthcare is increasing, the ratio in health technology is still quite low.” said Elaine Huesing, Executive Director, ITAC Health. “We want to encourage more women to step into senior roles in Digital Health by rewarding the pioneers who have paved the way so far.”

An industry-wide initiative, Women Leaders in Digital Health Award celebrates the top ten female visionaries who are harnessing the power of IT to transform health and healthcare in Canada today. The award is inclusive of all women of influence in health information technology, no matter what their specialty. This award is open to all women in the Digital Health community in Canada.

Nominations for the Women Leaders in Digital Health Award are now open. Nominees should meet the following criteria:

  • Nominees must have made a significant contribution to move the Canadian HI/telehealth agenda forward
  • Nominees must have made a significant contribution to or strongly impacted health outcomes or health system improvements
  • Their leadership and influence has been recognized within their jurisdiction
  • They have demonstrated dedication and promotion of activities, involvement with organizational change, or transformation through the use of technology.
