Helen Edwards RN BA MN Helen worked at SickKids for 40 years, holding a variety of positions including bedside nursing, education, project management, director and finally - Chief Nursing Informatics Officer in the Information Management and Technology portfolio. She led initiatives focused on identifying, evaluating, procuring, implementing and optimizing large-scale informatics and clinical technology solutions, most recently Epic. She describes the focus of her role as providing leadership and influencing clinical transformation through adoption and use of systems and their associated data to make improvements in patient care. Helen oversaw the Epic clinical modules as well as other clinical systems and technologies, and was the director of the Ontario Poison Centre - where enabling technologies extend the reach of specialty care.
She is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Toronto in the Master of Health Informatics Program. She received a variety of recognitions including the 2018 Ontario Nursing Informatics Group Award of Excellence; the SickKids President's Award and a SickKids Nursing Career Achievement Award.
Since retiring in June 2021 Helen provides informatics consulting services, sits on a variety of Boards, and mentors aspiring informaticists and emerging leaders.
