CNIA’s Position Statement on Research Recruitment

The Canadian Nursing Informatics Association (CNIA) provides opportunities for researchers to interact with CNIA’s members to extend and advance research that fits with the mandate of CNIA and works towards advancing nursing informatics.

CNIA follows a formal process when a researcher requests an opportunity to invite CNIA members to participate in research studies.

Our Role:

  1. Collaboration: We value collaboration with researchers, institutions, and stakeholders to contribute to meaningful research.

  2. Engagement: We engage in research recruitment processes that are ethically conducted and offer clear benefits to participants and the broader community.

  3. Support: We support researchers by providing access to relevant participant pools and expertise.

Review Process:

  1. Eligibility: CNIA is dedicated to delivering high-quality services to all members. The inclusion of research recruitment announcements is recognized as a valued benefit of membership. All CNIA members are eligible to submit a request for research recruitment. Non-members may request this service by paying a nominal fee of CAD 50 or by joining CNIA. Membership is free for undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

  2. Criteria: Each submission should include the following:

A completed Recruitment Assessment Form and Request Template, and send the completed forms to research@cnia.ca

  1. Decision Process: CNIA’s Co-directors of Research will review each application based on criteria such as relevance to CNIA’s mission, alignment with CNIA’s values, ethical considerations, potential impact, and feasibility. In the event of a disagreement between CNIA’s Co-Directors of research or unavailability of one of CNIA’s Co-Directors of research (vacation, leave), another CNIA board member will review the application to provide a resolution.

CNIA’s Co-Directors of Research will review proposals to determine required criteria are met within 2-3 weeks from request submission.

  1. Response:Upon completion of the review process, the individual who submitted the request will be formally notified.

  2. Distribution: The approved recruitment announcement will be posted on the designated CNIA Research Recruitment webpage, and a link to the webpage with a brief description will also be disseminated in the upcoming CNIA newsletter and CNIA social media accounts (LinkedIn, BlueSky).

Our Commitment: We are committed to contributing meaningfully to research initiatives while upholding the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and professionalism. Our participation in research recruitment reflects our dedication to advancing nursing knowledge, promoting innovation, and making a positive impact in the field of nursing informatics.

It should be noted: we do not share/rent/sell our membership list. Should a request/survey be approved, CNIA transmits all information/documentation to our members. Member information is never divulged to the party conducting the survey. The approval of a research recruitment announcement does not permit members to use the CNIA logo. A separate application process must be followed if members wish to use the CNIA logo in their research.
